BHUBANESWAR: Two looters, who shot at a trader of Unit-6 area in the city and decamped with Rs 2.3 lakh from him, were arrested by the Commissionerate Police. More interestingly, the police got the names of the duo while tracking the arm dealers, said the police here on Wednesday.
The two looters were identified as
Tripura Gauda (28) alias Chottu of Rambha area in Ganjam district and Prabhat
Paikray (40) of Nimapada area in Cuttack district. The police seized three
revolvers, 11 live bullets, the used bike for firing and hard cash of Rs 10,000
from the possession of the duo.
The looters confessed before the
police that they committed the crime to meet the expenses to purchase fire
arms.
According to the police, accused Paikray
was working in a grocery shop near the victim trader Harish Prasad Rath (40)
who works in Sachidananda Traders near Kali temple at Unit-6 area. The accused
had hold discussions with a few arm dealers to purchase fire arms and
accordingly he had planned to loot the trader Rath. He had asked Gauda and his
friend to join with him.
The two arrested intercepted Rath at
10.45 am on Saturday in front of his office and fired at him while he was going
in an Innova car to deposit money in a nearby bank. At first they shot at
Rath’s right hand to get the money bag.
Rath had received bullets in his
chest and fell unconscious on the spot. The miscreants managed to flee
immediately from there with the money bag when the public tried to come closer.
