BHUBANESWAR: The Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court here on Saturday rejected the appeal by the Commissionerate Police for Narco test of accused ex-Army medical officer Dr Somnath Parida, who had sliced his wife Ushashree into pieces on June 3 this year. The court had reserved the verdict on July 18 after hearing the appeal by the police.

Following the lie detection test of Parida, police had applied for Narco test of the accused on July 12, but the lawyer of the accused was not in the favour of the test. He had also requested the court not to allow Narco test on Parida on health ground of his client.

The lawyer had argued that the condition of the accused doctor was not well and Narco test for an elderly man of 72-years old may cause damage to Parida’s life. He had urged the court not to give permission to the police to conduct the test on the accused.

“Dr Parida is suffering from heart, cardiac, hypertension and diabetics related problems for which he is taking insulin three times a day. So I had appealed to the court not to allow the police to conduct Narco test on Parida,” said accused Parida’s lawyer Ashok Raj.

As the court rejected the plea of the police, the Commissionerate Police would conduct brain mapping of the accused Parida, said Bhubaneswar DCP.
