KHURDA: After six days’ manhunt and
search operations, finally on Tuesday a team of the Khurda police arrested
seven dacoits of a gang of robbers in connection with the Narangarh Odisha Gramya
bank robbery case held on July 3.
The police recovered 3.5kg of gold
and Rs 2.9 lakh cash from the arrested persons, while seized five bikes, one
mouser, five live bullets and bomb making instruments from their possession. The
team is searching another two aides of the arrested robbers who are still
absconding, said a police officer.
Investigating team said the
arrested robbers belonged to Nayagarh, Ganjam and Bhubaneswar area. They
involved in several cases under different police stations of their area, the team
added.
Notably, five armed miscreants
looted gold jewellery packets after hurling a bomb inside the Odisha Gramya
Bank campus at Narangarh in Khurda district, 15 km away from here, on July 3.
Two bank employees and a college boy were reportedly injured in the attack.
After reaching the bank premises by
bikes, the miscreants had barged into a hall where an internal meeting of top
bank officials was being held. They compelled the branch manager to open the
strong room by showing revolver and then looted over 700 packets of gold
jewellery and cash of Rs 11 lakh from the treasury.
When the police had chased the
robbers, they disappeared from the road by hurling bombs on the police
personnel near Dadhimachhagadia square in Narangarh area.
