Court reserves verdict on Narco test of ex-Army doc

--Ushashree murder case--

BHUBANESWAR: The Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court here on Tuesday reserved the verdict after hearing on an appeal by the Commissionerate Police for Narco test of accused ex-Army medical officer Dr Somnath Parida, who had sliced his wife Ushashree into pieces.

Following the lie detection test of Parida, police applied for Narco test of the killer doctor, but the lawyer of the accused was not in the favour of the test. He had also requested the court not to allow Narco test on Parida on health ground of his client.

On Tuesday, the lawyer argued that the condition of the accused doctor was not well and Narco test for an elderly man of 72-years old may cause damage to Parida’s life. He urged the court not to give permission to the police to conduct the test on the accused.

Though the test is not tested ok evidence for the court, it would help the police to gather additional information and would strengthen the investigation process, sources said. As there was no eyewitness in the case, the police are struggling to unearth the truth of the case and using various methods to dig out important information from the accused, it added.

If the court gives order in favour of the test, police would go for the test available in Hyderabad, said the police sources.
