BHUBANESWAR:
Noted writer Dr Umesh Patri who was recently chosen for the Odisha Sahitya
Akademi award for 2009 rejected the prize terming it as a wall between writers
and readers. Patri was selected for the coveted award for his book ‘Aryanka
Adinibas’.
In a letter to the secretary of
Odisha Sahitya Akademi, Patri said that he doesn’t consider any award as a
prize of literature which creates wall between writers and readers. “I am an
ordinary author and don’t want to be separated from my readers. I want to
remain free from any prizes and awards,” he stated.
Patri also pointed out that distribution
of prizes among the selected litterateurs has created two sections, upper and
lower class, in the literature society which he doesn’t want. The award is not
everything than readers love, he added.
