Patient walks into death at private hospital in city

BHUBANESWAR: In a rare incident, a patient died in a city-based private hospital here on Monday not for doctors’ negligence or due to effect of the disease, but for lackadaisical attitude of the hospital administration for not sealing a dangerous door which became the ‘door of death’ for the patient. After the unfortunate incident, the relatives of the deceased held the hospital authority responsible for the death.

The patient was identified as Basant Ray, a resident of IRC Village of Nayapalli area in the city who got admitted in the Vivekananda Hospital when he had pain in his abdomen. He was allotted for bed number 109 on the third floor of the hospital. On Sunday night Ray got up from the bed and went towards bathroom, but unfortunately he could not recognised the bathroom at the time. When he stepped up his foot by opening the door, he fell down from the floor. The door was not sealed before.

According to the relatives of the deceased patient, the staff of the hospital suddenly pasted a handwritten notice on the door, which was not there before during the incident. Daughter of the deceased Ray alleged that the hospital is fully responsible for the death of her father. On the other hand, the hospital authority said the work was going on outside the floor, so that the door was there.
