SFI to start campaigns protesting commercialisation of education

BHUBANESWAR: The Students Federation of India (SFI) would start campaigns in the State protesting commercialisation and privatisation of education along with other education related issues from August 12, said the executive body members of the SFI during its State-level organisational convention held here on Tuesday.

The SFI State unit secretary Sarat Das said the organisation is strongly opposing the new Education Bill which advocates for commercialisation and privatisation of education in the country. They also opposed the Foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of Entry and Operations) Bill-2010 which will destroy the Indian education system. Foreign Direct Investment in education should not be allowed, he added.

The executive body members said the education scenario of the State is not bright as thousands of schools in the State have only one teacher for five classes. More than thousand of lecture posts are yet to be filled up, they added. In respect of all these problems, the SFI would start massive campaign movements in the State to make the people aware about the education related issues and they would observe as demand day on August 22 to mark Organised Student Movement Day.

According to Das, on the demand day, they would demand the Government should halt commercialisation and privatisation of education in the State, fulfillment of teaching staffs in all the schools and colleges in the State and massive expansion of Government standardisation of education in the State.
