-- Culprits kill land lady to loot her house: police
BHUBANESWAR:
After six days of the murder of the elderly woman in Acharya Vihar in the city,
the Commissionerate Police arrested four accused in connection with the murder
case here on Wednesday. The motive of the culprits behind the murder was to
loot the valuables in the house, Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjeet said.
The accused were identified as
Vijay Yadav alias Vijay Behera, Priya Ranjan Pati, Ranjit Jena and Butu Jena. The
accused Butu is local beetle shop owner and Vijay is a BBA
student, while Priya Ranjan and Ranjit are MBA students, the police said.
Police have recovered one laptop, two mobiles, jewellery and cash from
possession of the accused.
According to the police, the four
accused had approached the owner Kunjabihari Panigrahi and the landlady Jyoshna
Devi of the house for a room in the hostel run by the Panigrahy couple, but the
couple denied for the room and they had an argument regarding payment of advance
money. On September 13, the accused entered inside the house and attacked
Panigrahy first and when his wife came to resist them, the accused killed
Panigrahy’s wife by strangulating the woman to death with the help an internet
cable, the police revealed.
When they found the woman dead,
the accused fled from the house at around 10.30
pm on that night. They headed to Patia after killing the landlady. The
police traced out the accused after getting their names from the register of
the hostel. A hostel also gave a information about Priyaranjan who was working
in a company which helped the police to trace out the culprit, police said.
The critically injured Panigrahy is
still in ventilator at a private hospital here. His sons are trying to make him
cure by hiring noted doctors from Canada
and Delhi.
