BHUBANESWAR: “The hearing impaired people don’t need our compassion, they need our strong support for their upliftment. They can enjoy the full right like a normal citizen in spite of so many challenges,” said Governor Murlidhar C Bhandare while inaugurating the 54th International Deaf Day organised by the Bring Smile Trust here on Saturday.
Gracing the occasion, Bhandare
said that all human being are born free and equal. All people should get equal
opportunity as they are living in a democratic atmosphere. There should be no
discrimination against the deaf or for that matter against any
differently-abled persons. These people are integral part of the society, he
added.
He also said in most cases, the
deaf are not aware of their constitutional or legal rights, hence it is the
responsibility of civil society as well as leading NGOs to spread awareness
among the deaf so that they demand rights. Education is the key to success in
any field, said Bhandare and added that we need to ensure quality education for
the deaf and differently abled.

secretary Subas Nayak Nutan Odisha chairman Bijay Rout also spoke. Bhandare
released a souvenir and felicitated film artistes Sabyasachi, Jayee, Anu
Chowdhury, activists like Prashant Sahu, Santosh Sahu, B Dalbehera and some
other activists for their contribution to the welfare of the deaf.
