Deaf people need support not compassion: Guv

BHUBANESWAR: “The hearing impaired people don’t need our compassion, they need our strong support for their upliftment. They can enjoy the full right like a normal citizen in spite of so many challenges,” said Governor Murlidhar C Bhandare while inaugurating the 54th International Deaf Day organised by the Bring Smile Trust here on Saturday.

Gracing the occasion, Bhandare said that all human being are born free and equal. All people should get equal opportunity as they are living in a democratic atmosphere. There should be no discrimination against the deaf or for that matter against any differently-abled persons. These people are integral part of the society, he added.

Education is the key to success in any field, said Bhandare and added that we need to ensure quality education for the deaf and differently abled.

Bhandare released a souvenir and felicitated film artistes Sabyasachi, Jayee, Anu Chowdhury, activists like Prashant Sahu, Santosh Sahu, B Dalbehera and some other activists for their contribution to the welfare of the deaf.
