BHUBANESWAR: On Saturday 8 am, the friends and well wishers of the agricultural scientist Dr Pothula Srinivasa Brahmanand were all prepared to listen the scientist’s longest marathon speech for an attempt to make it to Guinness Book of World Records (GBWR) at KIIT campus here on Saturday. The stopwatch begun and video cameras also started capturing the total proceedings of his speech along with how many listeners (not less than 10) were attending the speech according to the GBWR rules.
On International Literacy Day, Brahmanand
started his 37 hours marathon speech journey from the topic ‘Human Development:
Concept’. He then continuously talked about ‘Human Rights: Present Status’,
‘Ideology of International Leaders’ and ‘Let us inspire from the lives of
national leaders’ and then he took 15 minutes rest break. But in sometimes it
was seen that Brahmanand was continuously talking on the subjects without
taking break which earned some other bonus points to take some more minutes
during the break.
It may be noted that the present
record is in the name of India’s
M Madasamy for the duration of 30 hours and 6 minutes and will continue till
evening hours of September 9, a friend of the scientist said. The main objective
of the attempt is to create awareness among different sections of public about
various topics related to human development, human rights, spiritual concept,
Indian constitution, history, geography, polity, economy, botany, zoology,
human- systems, agriculture said contemporary issues of the society. He would
end the speech on the topic ‘My Vision for Welfare Society’.
Dr Brahmanand, who got a PhD in
Agronomy in 2009 from IIT-Kharagpur, is the
recipient of prestigious Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Puraskar from Union Ministry
of Home Affairs for the year 2005-06. He is presently working as a senior
scientist at the Directorate of Water Management here under the Indian Council
