Earthworm found in MDM in Brahmapur School



BRAHMAPUR: In a shocking incident, boiled part of earthworm found in the mid-day meal (MDM) of a school in the city on Monday. The midday meal was cancelled in the school on the day after the incident.

The incident happened in Dhameya Tank upper primary school of Ward number-13 under Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC). While mid-day meal was served in the school, a 5th class student K Kalpana spotted dead earthworm in the served dal curry to her. When she complained about the discrepancy, the school committee immediately stopped the serving of meal to the students.

After getting information regarding the incident, District Inspector of schools Pabitra Mohan Sahu, corporator M Tejeswar Swami and Brahmapur sub-collector Bijay Kumar Das rushed to the school to take stock of the situation. The sample of the dal and rice served by an NGO was taken for test.

According to the headmistress of the school Kumud Kumari Padhi, nobody has fallen ill as they have just started serving the meal.

Notably, three days back scorpion was found in the mid day meal of a Dhenkanal school as a result 39 students fell sick after consuming the cooked food.
