BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate
Police arrested a looter and seized jewellery along with cash worth Rs 16 lakh
from him here on Tuesday. The accused was identified as Rahul Maharana (32)
from Nilakantha Nagar of Salia Sahi under Nayapalli police station in the city.
Police seized silver jewellery of
300gm, gold ornaments of 536gm and hard cash Rs 26,900 from the possession of
the looter. A few diamond studded gold necklace and bracelet were also seized
from the accused.
According to the police, wife of
Maharana was working as cook in the house of Madhusudan Nayak of IRC Village.
On the day of the loot, the accused had gone to Nayak’s house to bring his
wife, but she had already left Nayak’s house while he reached there.
Maharana entered into the house by
breaking open the backdoor. He looted the ornaments and cash by shattering the
cupboard of the bedroom, said the police.
