Lion dies in Nandankanan Zoo



-- Six lions, four lionesses left

BARANG: A 20-year-old lion died due to prolonged illness at the Nandankanan Zoological Park here on Friday morning. The lion was under treatment for the last fifteen days in the feeding chamber, Zoo official sources said.

The lion was given liquid food due to illness. A team of veterinary doctors including senior veterinary officer Nalinikant Mohanty, Sarat Sahu and Prabhash Ray were treating the lion.

At present eight African and two Asiatic lion and lionesses are available in the zoo. After the death of the lion, only six lions and four lionesses are now left in the zoo, the officials said and added that three lions, both males and females, have died in the zoo during the current year.
