Palli Sabha row: Cong MLAs meet Guv

--Demand Palli Sabha in over 200 villages in Niyamgiri area

BHUBANESWAR: Congress MLAs consisted of Damburudhar Ullaka, Ramachandra Kadam, Bhujabala Majhi and Prafulla Majhi met Governor SC Jamir here on Friday and urged him to take steps for holding Palli Sabha in more than 200 villages instead of 12 villages in the Niyamgiri area.

The MLAs stated that all the villagers of more than 200 villages would be affected if Vedanta starts mining in the area. So that the State should record the views of the villagers in the area by holding Palli Sabha according to the guidelines of the Supreme Court.

The MLAs alleged that the State Government is not following the apex court guidelines and working in favour of Vedanta Company by avoiding the tribals’ views.

The Governor assured the MLAs to discuss about the matter with the State Government.

Notably, the Niyamgiri Suraksha Samiti (NSS) recently demanded the State to hold Palli Sabha at 112 villages instead of going for only 12 villages.
