Robbers decamp with Rs 2.3 lakh after firing at city trader



BHUBANESWAR: Two unidentified armed miscreants on Saturday shot at a trader of the city and decamped with Rs 2.3 lakh from him who was going to deposit the money in a bank. The trader was critically injured and he was shifted to a private hospital in the city.


The trader Harish Prasad Rath (40), a resident of Saheed Nagar area, is a distributor of Hindustan Unilever Ltd. He works in Sachidananda Traders near Kali temple at Unit-6 in the city.  

When he started his Innova car to go to the bank, two bike-borne miscreants intercepted his vehicle at 10.45 am in front of his office and started firing at him. At first they fired at Rath’s right hand to get the money bag.

Rath received bullets in his chest and fell unconscious on the spot. The miscreants managed to flee immediately from there with the money bag when the public tried to come closer.

According to the security guard of the office, the miscreants fled away with the money bag on a black colour bike which had no number plate, he added. The Commissionerate Police reached the spot and started investigation into the matter.

“We have recorded the statement of the witnesses and investigating into the matter. Till now three names have come up to our notice,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjit Singh.
