3 day National short-film fest concludes


BHUBANESWAR: The concluding evening of the 6th National Short and Documentary Film Festival on Art and Artist by the JD Centre of Art (JDCA) at the IDCOL Auditorium here on Friday was different from other days and the festival also unique from others as the audience were silent and spell bound after watching the art films by famous filmmakers of the country.

The joy was eternal like John Keats’s, “unheard melodies are sweater” and the piece of art created by painters and photographers was compelling to pen down the escapist thoughts with the hue moments of literary sphere created in the festival. Noted poet Padma Vibhushan Sitakanta Mohapatra and renowned photographer Raghu Rai said the film festival will inspire the youth group for art and film making.

In the last day of the festival, 10 short films were shown by different film makers. Show was started from ‘Travelling with Words’ by Violet Barman and ended with ‘Naukar Ki Kameez’ by Mani Kaul. According to Renuka George, her film ‘Asad Ali Khan’, a portrait of the great Rudra Veena master, one of the last to play this ancient instrument in this style. In the film, Asad talks about the intricacies of the instrument and the difficulties of mastering it. In ‘Bhena Shadaj: Kishori Amonkar’ film, Amole Palekar has documented the creative journey of Padma Vibhushan Kishori Amonkar.

Besides films on art and artists, discussions and seminars were also taken place in the festival. Famous film makers, artists, painters, photographers and dancers including Sunil Kothari, N Ramchandran, Jai Chandiram, Jatin Das, Biren Das, Sarat Pujari, Priyambada Hejmadi and Sujata Kulashrestha were present in the valedictory evening.

      

      

                                                                                                        


National film fest kick starts in city

BHUBANESWAR: The 6th National Short and Documentary Film Festival on Art and Artist started at the IDCOL Auditorium here on Wednesday. With the presence of renowned personalities from various quarters of the society, the festival was inaugurated by Governor of Odisha Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare.

The three-day film festival organised by the JD Centre of Art (JDCA) have planned for screening of around 27 hours of film within the stipulated time and already started some films based on great artists of the country from its inaugural day of the festival. The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Celebrating and Reminiscing Masters.’

While inaugurating the ceremony, the Governor said culturally Odisha is the richest State in the country and its artists are very talented. A poster poem which was a new publication of JDCA by the nationally acclaimed Odia poet Padmashree Jayanta Mahapatra released in the inaugural ceremony. 

According to the eminent Odia painter and JDCA chairman Jatin Das, this year they have tried to highlight the life of great artists of the country and their contribution towards the society in the field of art.

For the first time, the five-minute duration short films made by the students of different corners of the country will be awarded in the festival by the organisers. Thirty films will be screened including the feature film ‘Makar Manju’ on artist Ravi Varma by Rajendran Lenin. Shahji N Karun will present his film ‘Waiting’. A new film produced by JDCA ‘Meeting Husain’ by Bidisha Roy Das premiered in its first day of the festival.

Among others, noted Odia writer Padma Vibhushan Sitakant Mahapatra, renowned poet Padmashree Jayant Mahapatra, veteran Odia film director Nirad Mahapatra, GP Das, Cinematographer Raghu Rai and other famous personalities were present in the inaugural ceremony of the festival.
