PCR van becomes lifeline for twin-city: Commissioner


--100% success in detection of dacoits
BHUBANESWAR: “In road accident, the help of PCR vans to rescue the persons from the accident spot is remarkable step by the Commissionerate police as it has saved numerous lives during last years. Now these vans became lifeline for the twin-city,” said Police Commissioner Bijay Kumar Sharma at a Press conference here on Friday.

In his presentation at the Annual Press Conference, he has given a total statistics of crime in the twin-city. In his analysis report he said, total number of cases registered during the year 2011 is 6,765 as against 6,817 of the year 2010. Total registered crime has thus decreased by 0.7 per cent. Total percentage of detection during 2011 so far has been 80.5 per cent which would increase further. This has been better than last year.

Crime under head murder, dacoity, rape, burglary, rioting and miscellaneous case has declined during the year 2011 vis-à-vis 2010, but crime under head robbery, theft, swindling and accidents have increased vis-à-vis last year.

Most discernible decline is in respect of property offences such as dacoity and burglary during the year 2011 in comparison to 2010, whereas, crime under head murder and rape has decreased 3.1 per cent and 10 per cent respectively.

Percentage of detection so far has been 88.5 per cent in murder, 100 per cent in dacoity and 98.1 per cent in rape which are satisfactory.

Motor Vehicle Accident cases have registered an increase by 0.7 per cent during the year 2011. 936 cases have been registered as against 929 of the year 2010.Casualty and injury, however, have declined in comparison to last year.

Compounding of traffic offences, Commissionerate police have collected Rs 3, 10, 19,640 from 1, 75,947 violator in the year 2011. Similarly, Rs 30, 05,700 have collected from 5822 violator in the Enforcement Against Drunkenness in Public Place-2011 and Rs 12, 13,750 have collected from 12,061 violators in 2011 in the Enforcement of COTPA-2003.
