Five students injured in Vani Vihar group-clash

BHUBANESWAR: Five students were injured in a group-clash between two student groups at the Utkal University campus here on Friday. The fall out originated from an argument regarding set up of a help desk in the campus on Thursday. Two platoons of police forces were deployed in the campus. The injured students’ treatment is underway.

According to the Utkal University Students’ Union president Tanmay Swain, some students came and started threatening to the members and even attacked two students inside the campus while they were discussing with the members of the Students’ Union to open a ‘May I Help You’ desk to help the students who would come to appear different entrance tests under the university.

It was the beginning from where the tension started and in the night also some non-students had allegedly attacked some students by entering to the hostel. The simmering tension took a fiery situation on Friday. The angry mob torched a bike and five were injured in the clash between the groups.

The students were rushed to different private hospitals in the city. One among the injured was very critical and he was shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital at Cuttack, sources said.

Following the clash, the university authorities including Vice-chancellor, Registrar and Chairman of PG Council held a meeting to solve the problems of the students and to bring peace in the campus. The simmering tension was still prevailing in the campus, though platoons of police forces were deployed there.
