BHUBANESWAR: The Samajwadi Party Odisha State Committee on the occasion of Kargil Divas urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to establish a Martyrs’ Memorial (Amar Jawan Jyoti) at the capital city in the light of Amar Jawan Jyoti, New Delhi. It will inspire the next generation regarding the sacrifice of our heroes for the mother land, the party said.
India
won the Kargil War on July 26, 1999
where 527 soldiers laid down their lives and more than 13 hundred were injured.
Among them there were many Odia soldiers also. Today we are observing the
Kargil Divas (Victory Day) across the country and pay tributes to those heroes
who laid down their lives for our mother land. Our State should pay its tribute
it’s heroes along with the Kargil martyrs, said the Party.
Besides the Martyr’s Memorial,
the party suggested the Governor and the Chief Minister should pay respect to
the martyrs on the day every year along with other dignitaries, the promises
made by the State to the martyrs’ families must be fulfilled immediately and to
establish a War Memorial library where their valour, courage and sacrifice in
action to be displayed in a digital form.
