BHUBANESWAR:
The Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) Odisha on Thursday
started counselling for Medical PG seats in three Government colleges in the
State under open category. As many as 637 students have been asked to attend
the counselling for 87 seats, sources said.
It may be noted that following
the Supreme Court order not to give any special weightage to the in-service
doctors in admissions to PG Medical seats in the open category as it would
adversely affect the interests of meritorious candidates, the DMET cancelled
direct Medical PG counseling held on April 23 and July 13 and decided to hold
counselling on Thursday again for the open category to take candidates from the
merit list.
The students registered their
names after verification of documents on the day of the counselling. “After the
Supreme Court order, we cancelled the previous counseling. We are conducting
the counselling process smoothly,” said a senior official of DMET Sitaram
Mahapatra.
