BHUBANESWAR: Following an allegation made by the People For Animal (PFA) member
Sanjeev Das against Snake helpline member Subhendu Mallick for illegally
selling the snakes after hatchling them in his house, the forest department has
started investigation into the matter.
People For Animal (PFA) member
Sanjeev Das made a complaint before the forest department to order an
investigation into the matter and to punish the fellow for his illegal practice
of hatchling of snake eggs in his house and selling the snakes outside. “Without
the Government permission, Subhendu is breeding cobra snakes and doing public
shows at different colleges by demonstrating the snakes which is totally
against the Wildlife Act,” Das said.
The forest department has started
investigation into the matter after getting complaints from the PFA member. The
forest officials have started interrogating on the matter. “One allegation was
made by a person who claimed that Subhendu had posted some photos of snake
hatchling and we are investigating into the case basing upon the allegation.
After the investigation, I will submit before the Government,” said Divisional
Forest Officer, City Division, Jayant Kumar Das.
On the other hand, snake helpline
member Subhendu Mallick said he has done every thing with the knowledge of the
forest department. “Some people are very jealous with me and made the
complaint,” Mallick said adding, “I inform media and forest department after
any snake rescue or anything related to snake. By the way, if any abandoned egg
I find, I hatch them.”

DeleteBeing a layman I think Mr. Sanjib Kumar Das has rightly raised the voice against such legal criminals.. This is not an egg of a hen or a duck that you can hatch it at home and that to with the knowledge of the government. We citizens are well aware so as why this illegal hatching of snake egg is on rampant.. If action is not taken against such heinous crime then the day is not far away when there will be many more Punjabs in our country..

ReplyDeleteI am a layman ..i don't think that Forest Department will allow anyone to hatch snake eggs at home.. It is not an egg of a gem of a duck that it can be a part of your aangan.. If the Caretakers of the government themselves indulge in such activities then why are we having Acts ans Rules laid down by the Law Makers..Mr. Sanjib Kumar Das is absolutely right in taking action against such criminals. Action should be taken if found guilty..
