Missing AP fishermen rescued in Gopalpur


BRAHMAPUR: Six fishermen from Andhra Pradesh have been rescued by local fishermen of New Boxipalli village under Gopalpur police station in Ganjam district, 30 km from here, police sources said. The fishermen of Upada in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, who had ventured into the sea in a small trawler on July 31, were missing for a week.   

They faced problems many problems as their vessel developed a snag and went into deep waters. They could not come back to their place. Local fishermen spotted their vessel in the sea and took them ashore on Tuesday, the sources said.

Following the rescue of the fishermen, they were taken to New Boxipalli village near Gopalpur. While narrating their experience, one of the six fishermen said they had to spend a week in the sea without proper food and water. “It’s a new birth for us,” said a fisherman G Ramesh.

District administration of Ganjam examined their health and made arrangement for their safe departure. The district administration has also made arrangement repairing their fishing vessel.
