Vote ID cards recovered from drain in city


BHUBANESWAR: “We are facing lot of problems in the Government offices when the officers ask us for Vote identity cards, but more than hundred of vote ID cards of us are rotten in the drain,” said a slum-dweller to the media persons following the recovery of more than hundred of Vote identity cards from a drain at Salia Sahi slum in the city on Monday.

The voter ID cards, recovered from the drain by the slum people of the Salia Sahi, were issued on 2008-09. The identity cards of the people of Ganganagar, Salia Sahi and Sailashree Vihar were found.   

“The Government is spending lot of money to prepare Vote ID cards, but due to lackadaisical attitude of some officials. We demand a high-level inquiry into the matter as the top officials are responsible for the negligence,” said secretary of Basti Sangh Anjan Nath.

After the incident, the officials immediately reached the spot and started inquiry into the matter. When contacted Khurda district Sub-Collector Saroj Samal said their administration would investigate into the matter. Following the investigation, the beneficiaries would get the ID cards, he said.
