BHUBANESWAR:
The Biju Krushak
Janata Dal State
president Golak Bihari Nayak on Tuesday expressed his displeasure on the functioning
of the bank in the State and alleged that the nationalised and private banks
are not giving adequate loan to the State’s agriculture sector. He urged upon
them to provide more loan assistance to farmers of the State as they form the
backbone of the State’s economy.
The State Co-operative bank and
its branches are giving good finances to agriculture sector in Odisha. On the
other hand, private and nationalised bank are not giving loan adequately to the
farmers according to the guidelines of NABARD as 80 per cent of the State’s
population thrives on agriculture, he alleged.
Nayak said the banks should give
importance in giving Kharif and Rabi loan to the farmers of the State. Except
State Bank of India
and few other banks most of the banks’ performances in giving loan in the
Kharif is not at all satisfactory. The bank should be positive while financing
to the farmers particularly small and medium farmers, he rued.
