BHUBANESWAR:
Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare on Thursday mourned the sad demise of
the doyen of Odia modern painting Ajit Keshari Ray. In his message, Bhandare
described Ray as ‘The doyen of Odia art world.’
Bhandare said Ray not only gave
new direction to modern Odia painting, but also inspired the generations of
artists in the State. Bhandare recalled as he conferred the honorary doctorate
on Ray in the convocation of Utkal University of Culture and said under the
tutorship of Nandalal Bose in Shantiniketan, Ray grew up not only as an artist
with a unique style of his own, but as a Principal of Khallikote Art College
guided hundreds of world-based artists who later went on to bring laurels to
the State.
Bhandare said the State lost a
great artist, art teacher, administrator and organiser.
