Destitute woman gets kidnapped baby back

BHUBANESWAR: Saraswati Sahu was eagerly waiting at the Childline office here on Monday to get her three-month-old baby son who was kidnapped by some miscreants in the wee hours on October 11 from the Bhubaneswar Railway Station. The baby was handed over to Sahu following the decision of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

The CWC committee members said the mother and the child duo would live in the Swadhar home after their treatment. As the health condition of the child is not good, the Childline would take care of the child’s health, the committee members added.

After rescuing the baby from Nischintkoili area in Cuttack district on Saturday, the Government Railway Police (GRP) staff handed over him to Childline. Police arrested a person in connection with the child theft case.

Sahu reached the office on Sunday with the help of GRP police and saw her son at the shelter home.
It may be noted that on Thursday midnight, two bike-borne miscreants forcefully took away the baby son from Saraswati when she was taking rest at the railway station. She lodged a complaint at the GRP police station about the kidnapping of her son. The GRP staff at first took the matter lightly, but after intervention of media, they started an investigation to trace the baby.

The police rescued the baby from a couple of Gopapur village under Nischintkoili police station limits. The couple Surendra Behera and his wife Santoshi Behera had kept the child, said the GRP officials. Mitu Behera of Kedargouri area was arrested in connection with the case.

Saraswati, who hails from Angul district, was abandoned by his husband after marriage. A case was also lodged against her husband for leaving her helplessly. She gave birth to the son during last Rath Yatra here.
