BHUBANESWAR:
A delegation of the BJP Krushak Morcha led by its State president Maheswar Sahu
submitted a memorandum to Governor MC Bhandare here on Friday following a
discussion with him on various problems of farmers in the State.
In their sixteen-point chartered
of demands, the Morcha demanded before the Central Government to roll back the hike
in fertiliser price immediately and adequate supply of fertiliser to the
farmers, increasing of Minimum Support Price of paddy at the rate of Rs 2,025
per quintal, compensation to the farmers of flood and drought hit areas at the
rate of Rs 10,000 per acre, Rs 5 lakh as compensation to each farmer’s family
who committed suicide, total waiver of agricultural loans from the farmers of
the State and pension for the farmers above 60 years age.
Among other demands, the Morcha
members urged the Government to build cold storage in every block for storage
of vegetables, 50 per cent subsidy in electricity and fuels used by the farmers
for agricultural purpose and stop providing agricultural land and water to the
industries.
Among others, State secretary of
BJP Murali Manohar Sharma, Morcha State
secretary Jadumani Panigrahy, State vice-president of the Morcha Rabinarayan
Mahapatra, secretary Sarbashri Mangal Sahu, Samir Kumar Sahu and Anil Dhir went
with the delegation.
