BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of former Minister Harihar Swain, who passed away at the age of 77 at AIIMS, New Delhi, on Friday. Swain was suffering from cancer and treated from so many days at the AIIMS.
Patnaik in his condolence message
said Swain was a veteran leader and politician. Swain has proved his talent as
member of Odisha Legislative Assembly and Loksabha.
Swain, starting his political
career as Sarpanch, was elected as MLA for two times and became minister for
two times. He was also elected as Loksabha member from Aska constituency in
Ganjam district in BJD ticket after joining the party before the 2004 Lok Sabha
elections. Later, he was suspended from BJD due to anti-party activities during
confidence vote in July 22, 2008.
He was born on November 11, 1935 at Devabhumi
village under Aska block in Ganjam district. He was elected as MLA from Aska
constituency for the first time in 1977 with the Janata ticket.
