BHUBANESWAR: Even as leaders of
the Odisha Jana Sammukhya (OJS), a newly floated political outfit, organised a
State-level meeting here on Tuesday to announce the future course of action in
the presence of block-level representatives, some of its top leaders are
reportedly in favour of erstwhile political strategist of BJD Pyarimohan
Mohapatra.
Mohapatra still haunts the minds
of some leaders of OJS, launched on Sunday here, who owe deep allegiance to him
since long. Even the Pyari loyalists in the party reportedly had some internal
discussions to invite him to their front, but the idea was forsaken due to
opposition by its top leaders.
According to a prominent partner
of the front, they had full-fledged discussion with Pyaribabu before floating
the political front as he could tap some leaders from the BJD to strengthen the
front which claims to be an alternative to the ruling party.
On a ‘rumoured’ ‘rift’ in the
front over the proposition to invite Pyari into the party, Republican Party of
India president and coordinator of the front Shaikh Abdul Wali said there was
no rift at all. “If Pyaribabu comes, we will give him full support in the
party,” Wali said.
Wali said he had brought in more
than eight constituents while forming the front and agreed to support the front
in the greater interest of the State, but they had given a proposal after
discussions with front chairman Ajeya Rout to bring in Pyaribabu for strengthening the party. Even Rout had given
green signal in favour of the proposal, he claimed.
Most of the leaders felt that
they have to take the help of some
strong element outside Congress, BJP and BJD and they chose Pyaribabu,
said Wali to The Pioneer. He reiterated that his friendly parties and organisations
wanted the strategist to be in the front.
Wali said they had high hopes on
Pyaribabu, but the hopes subsided when they heard about a new Morcha being
floated by him to organise BJD workers, whom they have been opposing all along.
On the other hand, Samruddha
Odisha president and party convener Jatish Mohanty said they are committed to
serve the people of the State by providing a political alternative. They don’t
need help from any political strategist, he said, adding, they will go to the
common people and give them the right message of development. “We don’t have
any rift, our front will continue with the good wishes of the common people,”
Mohanty said.
The OJS unveiled its party agenda
in the State-level meeting where it mentioned that they would give transparent,
clean, vibrant, progressive and pro-people governance to the people of the
State. They emphasised on easy access of basic necessities for the people and
all-round development of the State if they would come to power.
