Governor mourns Ajit Ray’s death

BHUBANESWAR: Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare on Thursday mourned the sad demise of the doyen of Odia modern painting Ajit Keshari Ray. In his message, Bhandare described Ray as ‘The doyen of Odia art world.’

Bhandare said Ray not only gave new direction to modern Odia painting, but also inspired the generations of artists in the State. Bhandare recalled as he conferred the honorary doctorate on Ray in the convocation of Utkal University of Culture and said under the tutorship of Nandalal Bose in Shantiniketan, Ray grew up not only as an artist with a unique style of his own, but as a Principal of Khallikote Art College guided hundreds of world-based artists who later went on to bring laurels to the State.

Bhandare said the State lost a great artist, art teacher, administrator and organiser.
