Two get death sentence in Nuapada double murder case



NUAPADA: Three persons were awarded with death sentence within a week in the State. Following the order of death sentence to a youth for raping and murdering a 7-year girl at Sambalpur on Monday, two persons accused of killing a woman and her daughter were awarded with death sentence by the Nuapada District and Sessions judge here on Friday.
The persons were identified as Manoj Bhoi and Motilal Barik. They were accused of killing two women of Sihinimunda under Komna block in the district in February 1 last year. As the case was rare, the judges gave death sentence after hearing the case.  

On the other hand, the accused’s advocate said they would appeal in the upper court against the decision of the District and Sessions judge.

According to sources, the accused had attacked the family members of Pankaj Mirdha during the night time when they were fast asleep. They brutally attacked the family members with the help of sharp weapons, where Pankaj’s daughter Sahebani Mirdha died on the spot and his wife Kaushlya Mirdha died in the hospital, while Pankaj and his two sons were critically injured.

The accused had asked Rs 10,000 from Pankaj, but he denied giving money to him. They had little argument in the morning and then the accused attacked the family members during the night time on the same day to take revenge of the argument, the sources said.
