Gram Rakshi held for raping woman


ROURKELA: A Gram Rakhi was arrested by the police on Wednesday for raping and threatening a woman of Saplata under Gurundia police station in Sundergarh district. He was identified as Santosh Munda of Bhurum village under the same police station who was discharged from service from Tuesday.

According to sources, on October 7, the Gram Rakhi had taken one woman in a motorcycle with a plea to release her husband detained in the police station for an enquiry. On the way near Latajhar, accused Munda forcibly committed sexual assault on her and threatened her to kill if she would disclose the matter before any body.

But subsequently, on arrival of her husband, she disclosed the matter and next day both husband and wife had been to the house of the Gram Rakhi to ask about the matter. Munda did not admit his guilt and threatened them for dire consequence and assaulted the husband of the victim. The police registered a case against Munda after getting complaint from his wife and arrested him.
