BJD blocks road protesting Aska MP’s rep murder

BRAHMAPUR: Protesting the murder of Congress Nayak (37), a worker of the Biju Janata Dal and Dharakot representative to Aska MP Nityananda Pradhan, supporters and members of the Biju Janata Dal blocked the National Highway-217 at Dasamaili village under Dharakot block of Ganjam district on Monday.

Aska MP Nityananda Pradhan, Ganjam Zilla BJD president Kailash Rana, Rajyasabha MP Renubala Pradhan and other leaders of BJD have taken the lead in the strike. The road communication between Aska-Sorada-Badagada was disrupted due to the road blockade agitation by the BJD supporters. The relatives of the victim said the strike will continue till the criminal is arrested.

It may be noted that Nayak was murdered by some unidentified miscreants at his village Haripur on Sunday while pasting of posters for the Panchayat elections. About eight persons reportedly killed him from his backside with sharp weapons and ran away from the village soon after the incident. A deep injury was found on Nayak’s neck.

It is suspected that political animosity might be the reason behind the murder, though the police were in dark about the actual reason of the murder. Miscreants are absconding and none has been arrested in this connection. Senior police officials include Ganjam SP Rajesh Pandit have visited the spot. Investigation is on, informed Dharakot police.

On the other hand, BJD leader and Aska MP alleged the Congress workers are responsible for Nayak’s murder. He also said the opposition party had tried five times to kill Nayak, but this time political rivals succeeded in their plan. Specifically, he has pointed his fingure at Sanakhemundi MLA and Congress leader Ramesh Jena alleging his involvement in the murder case which is later denied by the Congress.
