Maoists take away vote box in B’patna


BHAWANIPATNA: Following the election fear in Nuapada and Malkangiri, Maoists of Lanjigada in Kalahandi district took away the vote box before the polling from the villages of Trilochanpur Gram Panchayat under Lanjigada block on Tuesday night opposing panchayat poll. Maoists looted the ballot box and other documents on Tuesday night at around 8 pm at the villages of Trilochanpur GP under Lanjigarh block.

Police told the media that a group of six Maoists armed with guns came and looted ballot box at Ladang and Gaudachuagada village of Trilochanpur GP.

Earlier Maoists had threatened the inhabitants of Trilochanapur GP not to cast the votes during Election Day after posting the posters on the wall. After getting the threats, district administration had also declared 30 booths as sensitive booths out of 258 booths in Lanjigarh block.

About 900 voters could not cast their votes in 11 booths after looting of 2 ballot boxes. The presiding officer at the booth told the media that the report has been sent to the election officer for re-voting in the looting area. On the other hand, the police have started combing operation in the area.
