BHUBANESWAR:
“Good buildings must have durability and utility, but beauty must not be
neglected in the process,” said Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare while
inaugurating a seminar on ‘Inclusive Architecture’ organised by the Indian
Institute of Architect (IIA) Odisha Chapter here on Sunday.
Bhandare said the process of
Industrialisation, Urbanisation and market oriented styles has pushed the
classical architecture into oblivion. He cited the mushrooming high rises
replacing beautiful buildings in any urban area as the example of the process
where the car parks are replacing beautiful gardens in any apartment block.
COA
president Uday Gadkari urged the architects to abide by the code of conduct of
the Council and be ethical in their professional activities. He deplored the
participation of non architects in these processes and urged the Governor to
ensure that the standard of the education is maintained in all educational
institutes.
IIA Odisha chapter chairman
Akshaya Kumar Beuria delivered the welcome address. Council of Architecture (COA)’s
Executive Member Prakash Deshmukh said the temples of the State are living
examples of the glorious architectural past of the State and it is now the responsibility
of the young architects to regain the lost glory.
Three State-level awards were
presented to the local Architects on the occasion. The awards were Otto
Koenigsberger Lifetime Achievement Award, Srikant Paikray Award for Architect
of the Year and Saurastra Das Award for Young Architect of the Year.
