BHUBANESWAR: In order to make aware the owners and employees of shops and
business establishments of the city to write their name plates of their establishments
in Odia language, the members of the Utkal Sammilani conducted an awareness
drive here on Sunday.
The Sammilani members lead by its
president Basant Kumar Tripathy and general secretary Dr Radhanath Praharaj came
in a procession starting from Master Canteen to Rajmahal square to make the
owners of shops and business establishments aware about Section 38 of the Odisha
Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1956 which advocates to display the
name and address of the shop or the commercial establishment prominently by way
of signboard or other means in front of such shop or business establishment
written in Odia language.
The members appealed the owners
and employees of the commercial establishments to obey the guideline of the
State Government to use Odia instead of other foreign languages while writing
their signboards of their shops. “Using of Odia language will boost our
self-esteem,” said Tripathy. Among others, Utkal Sammilani vice-president Dr
Gaurang Prasad Behera, Secretary Banalata Mishra, Secretary Khetramohan
Samantaray and district-level workers of the Sammilani were present.
