Three Odia minor girls rescued from Goa

BRAHMAPUR: Three minor girls rescued by the Goa police were handed over to Brahmapur Childline here on Thursday. Out of the three girls, two belong to Kandhamal and one from Gajapati district, Childline sources said.

According to the sources, one local broker had sent three minor girls to Goa after trafficking from the two districts. The girls were engaged as child labourers at a house there. They were getting torture physically and orally. Their employer was not paying them. Even the employer was not giving sufficient food, said the Childline officials.

On a tip off, Goa police rescued the girls from the house and kept in a shelter home there. Later, the police informed the Brahmapur Childline and handed over the girls on Thursday.

“In the second phase, the Goa police would send five more Odia girls who were working there,” said Brahmapur Childline director and Campaign Against Child Labour State convener Sudhir Sabat.
