Institute of Architects holds design carnival in city

BHUBANESWAR: The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Odisha Chapter began organising its five-day-long annual event ‘Design Carnival and the Interior Show-2012’ here from Wednesday. The event will continue till November 11.

As part of this event, there are a series of workshops, seminars, competitions and interactive sessions that would run concurrently with the exhibition. The interactive sessions would include conferences, workshops, technical presentations, discussions on interior, exterior and construction industries in India. Delegates and participants from across the country would join in the design carnival.

According to the IIA members, for the last six years the carnival has been debating on new paradigms of architecture and planning not just from a design perspective but also from usability and functionality perspectives. This time the chosen theme of the carnival is ‘Inclusive Architecture’ which deals with the design process that results in inclusive products or environments which can be used by everyone regardless of not only age, gender or disability but also race, income, education, culture, etc.

IIA executive body member Narayan Tripathy said three awards would be given away to the experts in the field of architecture. The awards are Young Architecture Award, Lifetime Achievement Award and Architect of the Year Award.
