Statistics says that the level of pollution that occurs due to Diwali which is
known as festival of lights in our society causes maximum harm to underage
children’s at large. The children living in urban slums are highly affected
with the adverse impact of Diwali. To spread the message of a safe and green
Diwali and healthy environment for young children; major youth groups of
Bhubaneswar joined hands together yesterday and celebrated the Festival of
Lights with the children living in urban slums.
A total of twelve youth led
organizations working for different social causes in the city and students from
different educational institutes volunteered for the causes and could bring
smiles on the faces of more than 350 students of Salia Sahi. People living in
Salia Sahi are highly under urban poverty. The kids over there are the victims
of major health and other issues.
100 odd volunteers spent their
whole day with the underprivileged kids and with various activities crated a
festive fever inside the slum. The other slum dwellers and children joined
them. Activities such as bungee jumping, mehndi, tattoo, wall painting, outdoor
games, rangooli, and music by a local rock band, colouring of lamps and
lightening them as well happened throughout the day. Ollywood actor Akash
dasnayak also joined the volunteers and advised the kids and parents for a SAFE
AND HEALTHY Diwali. Actor Samaresh Routray
also joined the kids and celebrated this Diwali with cutting a huge cake having
the message of Safe and healthy environment for children living in urban
poverty. This event was supported by the "Humara Bachpan" campaign by
