Security deposit for electricity consumers to be hiked

BHUBANESWAR: The Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) has given notice to the consumers to deposit extra security money as it was increased due to the hike in tax. If the consumer fails to pay the extra security fee within the stipulated time, the electricity supply company would disconnect the home connection, CESU official sources said.

The consumers were unhappy as they had already deposited the security fee during the time of electricity connection. Earlier the CESU had hiked power tariff showing various reason and the recent hike in security deposit would add salt on the wound, said a consumer Parthasarathy Ray Badjena.

The CESU authorities stated that they have taken the decision according to the Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission guideline.

On the other hand, the consumer activist Ramesh Satpathy said that they would knock the door of the High Court against the decision of the CESU. They urged the CESU to rollback the decision immediately.
