-- Combing operation continues, Bhaliagada
village deserted
PARLAKHEMUNDI/BRAHMAPUR: Following
the Bhaliagada encounter on Wednesday, the State police on Friday released the
sketches of six aides of top Maoist leader and Odisha Maobadi Party chief
Sabyasachi Panda declaring reward for information about the Maoists
whereabouts. At the same time combing operation is continuing in the
tri-junction area of Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal district to nab Maoist
leader Panda and his associates.
The police announced reward on
the name of Maoist leader Aruna, Krishna, Andrew Majhi,
Pramod Majhi, Pratap Nayak and Prami Majhi. Informant’s identity would be kept
confidential, the police added. The District Intelligence Bureau admitted that
they released the sketches of the six Maoists. The posters were pasted in
Mohana area of Gajapati district.
Meanwhile, postmortem on the
bodies of the five slain Maoists was conducted at the MKCG
Medical College Hospital
at Brahmapur on Friday. Though their identity was yet to be declared
officially, the unofficial sources identified them as Basu (31) of Tikabali,
Sudhansu (32) of R Udaygiri, Santosh (28), Ramesh (26) and Litu of Raikia in
Kandhamal district.
Some of the family members were
present near the deceased’s body to identify them. One woman, wife of the
deceased Maoist, alleged that her husband was not involved in Maoist
activities, but the police killed him.
Following the encounter at the
Bhaliagada forest area, the tribals of five hamlets on Friday left their
village fearing police action and firing as the combing operation is continuing
in the area. Panda has only 25 associates out of which seven people were injured
during the combing, said the police, adding, “If we seal all the areas of the
jungles and keep vigilant eye on the doctors in the area, we can nab the
injured Maoists easily. At any cost, we will arrest them,” said a senior police
officer.
