BHUBANESWAR: Following the protest from consumers against the Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) which has given notice to the consumers to deposit extra fee as security money, Energy Minister Arun Sahu said that he would review the decision on Monday and take appropriate decision about the matter.
On the other hand, PCC president
said that the decision was not appropriate as it would affect the commonmen
badly. “The electricity companies had hiked power tariff according to their
wish and now they are charging extra for security fee which is illegal and
affect the common people of the State,” Patnaik said.
According to the CESU
authorities, they have taken the decision according to the Odisha Electricity
Regulatory Commission guidelines. If a consumer fails to pay the extra security
fee within the stipulated time, the electricity supply company would disconnect
the home connection, CESU sources said.
However, the consumers were
unhappy as they had already deposited the security fee during the time of
electricity connection. Consumer rights activist Ramesh Satpathy said that they
would knock the door of the High Court against the decision of the CESU. Earlier,
the CESU had hiked power tariff showing various reasons and the recent hike in
security deposit added salt on the consumers’ wound, said Parthasarathy Ray
Badjena.
