BHUBANESWAR:
Following the State Commission for Women (SCW) Chairperson Jyoti Panigrahy’s report
to the State Government on the death of Ayurvedic doctor Madhabilata Pradhan death
case, women leaders of Congress party and women activists on Friday criticised
the Commission for her one-sided report to appease rulling party leaders.
State Women Congress president
Bijaylaxmi Sahu alleged that the report is one-sided and the commission tried
to appease the political leaders of the rulling party involved in the case. She
expressed concern over the Commission’s attempt to give clean chit to local MLA
Sanjay Das Burma
and former Health Minister Prasanna Acharya who had written letter requesting for
transfer of the lady doctor. The Commission has also given clean chit to the
police, Sahu added.
“We have already demanded CBI
probe into the case and recent report compels us to reiterate the demand again.
The report is disappointed,” Sahu said, adding, “The Commission was not formed
to help party people, but to help the women in distress.”
According to Vice-president of
All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) Tapasi Praharaj, the report of
the Women Commission is not impartial and she made it knowingly. “Chairperson
of the Commission recommended action against the Chief District Medical Officer
(CDMO) of Puri, but why she didn’t written anything about the NRHM director,
the then Health Minister and local MLA who had written letter for transfer of
the doctor though there was no provision,” Praharaj questioned.
Praharaj said the body of the
doctor yet to recover by the police. There are many people involved in the case
including police which was revealed recently after the statement of the priest
of the Masani Chandi temple. The Commission has written that some other reasons
behind the death of the doctor, but why she didn’t mention about the ‘other
reason’ in her report, Praharaj questioned.
On the other hand, Brahmagiri MLA
Das Burma said
that some people are dragging him into the case to get political benefit out of
the issue, but the actual reason would come up after the investigation.
