Constable succumbs to his burn injuries in Cuttack



--Lady Constable critical in fire accident

CUTTACK: APR Constable Sureshananda Das, posted at the Police Reserve, who attempted suicide on November 3 evening by setting him on fire on the premises of the Reserve Inspector’s office here, succumbed to his injuries at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here on Saturday.

The police constable attempted self-immolation by pouring kerosene on his body due to the fear of being transferred from Cuttack. Around 60 per cent of the body was burned. He was rushed to the SCB Medical College Hospital here by his friends, but he could be saved. Das belongs to Banki area in Cuttack district was posted in Koraput district before being transferred to Cuttack in 2006.

In another incident, a lady constable Truptimayee Sahu, who is working in the motor vehicle section in the police department, sustained serious injuries after a fire accident in her kitchen on Saturday evening here. She was trapped by the fire in the kitchen without her knowledge. When her husband came home, around 80 per cent of her body was already burned, said Sahu’s husband. She was admitted in the SCB Medical College Hospital here.
