Govt orders CB probe into doctor’s death


BHUBANESWAR: The State Government ordered a Crime Branch police inquiry into the death of Ayurvedic doctor Madhavilata Pradhan on Monday after continuous demonstration, agitation and public protest by the social organisations and political parties demanding stringent action against the culprits for allegedly killing the lady doctor.

After the inquiry order, the Crime Branch police formed a four-member team headed by a DSP cadre officer to probe into the case. The team would start their investigation from Tuesday, said the Crime Branch police sources.

“After getting probe order from the State Government on Monday, we immediately formed a four-member team led by a DSP to inquiry into the matter. They would start their work from Tuesday,” said Crime Branch ADG BK Sharma.

On the other hand, some political party and social organisation like All India Democratic Women’s Association, Odisha Jan Morcha, National Students’ Union of India and other organisations demanded CBI inquiry into the death of the doctor in stead of Crime Branch inquiry. Even brother of the lady doctor on Friday filed a writ petition in the Odisha High Court appealing for a CBI probe into her sister’s death.

The State Commission for Women (SCW) has started its investigation from Thursday after taking suo motu cognisance into the case.
