State agrees to allow NEET for medical courses

BHUBANESWAR: Finally the State Government has decided to participate in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET 2013) for Under Graduate medical courses admissions across the State. Now the students of the State would not go for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) to get a medical seat, said Health Minister Damodar Rout.

Earlier, the State Government had refused to participate in the NEET citing the reason that they need more Odia doctors to serve in the rural areas of the State. When the Centre agreed to give 85 per cent reservation for the students, the State accepted the decision.

According to the Health Minister, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) would conduct NEET which is scheduled for May 12, 2013. The board would conduct the examinations at Bhubaneswar, Koraput and Rourkela as centres, but the State Government has requested to increase centres to five cities including Samnbalpur and Brahmapur, he added.

It may be noteworthy to note that NEET UG 2013 online application registration would start from Dec 01, 2012.
