Utkal Sammilani’s ‘signboard writing in Odia’ drive held

BHUBANESWAR: In order to make aware the owners and employees of shops and business establishments of the city to write their name plates of their establishments in Odia language, the members of the Utkal Sammilani conducted an awareness drive here on Sunday.

The Sammilani members lead by its president Basant Kumar Tripathy and general secretary Dr Radhanath Praharaj came in a procession starting from Master Canteen to Rajmahal square to make the owners of shops and business establishments aware about Section 38 of the Odisha Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1956 which advocates to display the name and address of the shop or the commercial establishment prominently by way of signboard or other means in front of such shop or business establishment written in Odia language.

The members appealed the owners and employees of the commercial establishments to obey the guideline of the State Government to use Odia instead of other foreign languages while writing their signboards of their shops. “Using of Odia language will boost our self-esteem,” said Tripathy. Among others, Utkal Sammilani vice-president Dr Gaurang Prasad Behera, Secretary Banalata Mishra, Secretary Khetramohan Samantaray and district-level workers of the Sammilani were present.
