Kui leader Kanhar arrested during 48-hrs Kandhamal bandh

PHULBANI: The police arrested Baudh-Kandhamal Milita Kriya Anusthan Committee leader and Kui Samaj president Lambodar Kanhar on Thursday while demonstrating in front of the tehsil office here during the second day of the 48-hour Kandhamal bandh. The police also arrested some other protesters including Kui Samaj secretary Anam Nayak during the agitation.

On the second day of the bandh, hundreds of supporters lead by Kanhar came in a procession and staged a demonstration in front of the tehsil office here protesting district administration’s State-level recruitment for the appointment of SSA teachers in the district. When they tried to enter into the tehsil office by chanting slogans of ‘Go Back Outsiders,’ the police stopped them and then arrested the adamant agitators after a face-off.

The 48-hrs bandh from Wednesday 6 am to Friday 6 am paralysed the normal life in the district. Educational institutions, business establishments, shops and markets were closed. Communication and transportation system was affected due to the bandh. The protesters blocked various roads by cutting trees to disrupt the communication.
