Wife lodges dowry case against Odia cricketer

BHUBANESWAR: Former Odisha Ranji cricketer Sanjay Satpathy’s wife Swapna, a civil engineer in profession, on Monday lodged a complaint in Mahila police station here against her husband and his family for allegedly torturing her for dowry. The police conducted raid on Satpathy’s house, but could not trace him out.

According to the family members of Swapna, their daughter was tortured by her husband Sanjay and his family members for dowry from the day of their marriage in February 11 last year. Swapna’s father said that Sanjay threw his daughter out of house a few days ago and he forcibly kept 11-month-old son with him.

“We don’t need the dowry money what we had given during the marriage, but we need the baby back as my daughter is crying everyday for her baby,” said Swapna’s father. Swapna’a mother Swarnalata approached the Mahila police on Saturday to help them out.

The Mahila police have started investigating into the matter after registering a dowry case. The police raided Sanjay’s rented house in the city and paternal house at Rupadeipur near Pipili, but they could not find anyone, Mahila police station in-charge officer Anita Pradhan said.

On the other hand, Sanjay rubbished the charges against him. He said that the allegations are baseless and false. Like Sanjay, former captain of Odisha Ranji team Prabhanjan Mallick was also booked under dowry charge during last February.
