Woman Maoist surrenders before Ganjam SP



BRAHMAPUR: One woman Maoist surrendered before Ganjam SP at District Police Headquarters Chatrapur on Friday. She was identified as Sumitra Mallick (20) alias Sushila of Gilima under Badagarh police station in the district. She was one SLR cadre of Ghumsar Division, said the police sources.

According to Sumitra, she had left the Maoist organisation three months back due to exploitation and torture in the Maoist camp by the senior cadres like Sabyasachi Panda, Krishna and others.

On January 18, 2001 night, she was involved in Merikote incident under Badagada police station in the district as per direction of Maoist leader Panda. She along with other cadres burnt the camp of contractor Girish Sahu and his vehicles including three JCBs as he did not pay the demanded money by the Maoists.

She was also involved with other Maoist cadres in Kerubadi exchange of fire incident under Daringibadi police station in Kandhamal district. As per her statement and also from other sources it revealed that Potu, Nani, Sabita Mahesh, Manjulla and Tode were disparate to leave the party and want to join main stream of the society but Panda is not allowing them to come out and also threatening them, the police said.
